Andrew O’Connor inducted into ARBS Hall of Fame

6 June 2024

The board and staff of AMCA Australia congratulate Andrew O’Connor on his induction into the ARBS Hall of Fame.

One of the highlights of the 2024 ARBS Industry Awards was Andrew O’Connor’s induction into the ARBS Hall of Fame.

It’s fair to say the O’Connor name has been a significant part of AMCA’s history – and not just because O’Connors have a 130 year, five-generation history in the building services industry.

Like his father Creagh, Andrew O'Connor has been both a state and national president of AMCA (Andrew was AMCA SA president 2001-2003 and 2017-2019, and AMCA Australia president 2007-2009). Andrew’s grandfather Frank was a state president before the national office was formed.

While in his national role with AMCA, Andrew taught on the Diploma of Project Management course and was instrumental in starting AMCA’s annual contributions to charities. He also sits on the BIM-MEP AUS board, and has been instrumental in driving the adoption of BIM-MEP AUS in South Australia.

In 2018, together with AMCA (SA), NECA, MPA and NFIA, Andrew formed the Specialist Contractors Association (SPA) with the goal of achieving fair and equitable allocation of risk in the building and construction industry to ensure subcontractor sustainability. Andrew served as president of SPA from 2018-2024, and is currently the chair of SPA.

With over 35 years’ experience, Andrew is passionate about the building services industry.

25 years ago, Andrew started O’Connors engineers and constructors - an industry-leading South Australian mechanical services provider, building on a family tradition in engineering, plumbing and construction. O’Connor’s employs about a hundred and forty South Australians including over 70 apprentice tradespeople and a dozen engineers in the mechanical services area.

Andrew believes in having a generosity of spirit in all you do and in respecting all. He is viewed by the industry as a leader who will always help where he can.

AMCA Australia congratulates Andrew for being inducted into the ARBS Hall of Fame – a fitting recognition of his contribution to the AMCA, and to the broader building services industry.
