Earlier this year, the Australia Building Codes Board released the 2019 version of the National Construction Code, which included the first major overhaul of energy efficiency provisions since 2010.
The changes aim to reduce energy consumption by up to 35 in commercial buildings and include a range of measures that impact the design and construction of mechanical services.
Based on NABERS and Green Star, new verification methods are also being introduced to provide industry with greater flexibility when demonstrating compliance with the relevant performance requirements.
To assist industry get up to speed with the changes, the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air-conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) will be holding half-day seminars across the country.

About the Presenter
Ken Thomson, M.AIRAH, has over 25 years’ experience in the building industry and has completed numerous projects in ESD and mechanical design. These projects include HVAC system design, documentation and commissioning (including undertaking CFD analysis, façade design and analysis, and daylight and glare assessments), as well as post-occupancy inspections, energy audits and building condition audits.
