Box Hill | Maintain essential safety measures

This course provides an introduction to the requirements for maintaining ventilation and air conditioning systems related to essential safety measures (ESMs) such as fire and smoke control measures of air handling systems, also known as Life Safety Systems.

 

The Master Refrigeration Program is designed to complement other training programs and experience gained in Heating Ventilation and Air-conditioning Industry. The AMCA has adopted a blended delivery method, integrating technology enhanced learning using AMCA’s Learning Management System with face-to-face teaching using the RCCC PODs to enhance the student learning experience.

Course
This course provides an introduction to the requirements for maintaining ventilation and air conditioning systems related to essential safety measures (ESMs) such as fire and smoke control measures of air handling systems, also known as Life Safety Systems.
The course focuses on responsibilities and statutory requirements of building owners, contractors and maintenance technicians while maintaining and testing ESM’s.

Learning Outcomes
The student, having completed the course, will be able to identify ESM’s, prepare a maintenance strategy, carry out test and maintain maintenance records.
The student will be required to complete 3 assessments:

  • Carry out building inspection and maintenance of ESM – completed during the course
  • Plan maintenance and collate ESM checklist – to be returned within 30 days
  • Maintaining ESM records - to be returned within 30 days

To be competent in planning and carrying out ESM maintenance and checking the system operation and performance to the Australian Standard for installation and maintenance:
AS1668.2, BCA (part of the NCC) AS3666, AS1851

Structure
2 Days - Program is delivered over 2 days x 8 sessions. 
Day 1 Theory
Day 2 Practical at RCCC, Box Hill Institute. commissioning and testing in a simulated 3 story building (stairwell pressurisation Pod)
The student will be required to complete 3 assessments in class.

Stairwell Pressurization Pod 
The stairwell pressurization pod replicates a building fire escape stairwell and 3 floors for the purposes of demonstrating the operation and maintenance of zone pressurization and stairwell pressurization systems while a building is in fire mode. Learners will be able to plan and carryout ESM maintenance; checking the system operation and performance to the standards: The ESM pod allows the trainer to carry out both formative and summative assessments and presents the learner with a close to real situation that he or she would encounter in the field.

Qualification/Award
Statement of Attainment for VU21960 issued by Box Hill Institute.
This unit is an Elective unit for the 22329VIC Course in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Services Certificate.

Who should attend?
Learners are best equipped to achieve the course outcomes, if they have minimum language, literacy and numeracy skills that are equivalent to Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework. It is expected that learners have trade level qualifications or an equivalent level of experience in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry.

Why you should attend?
At the conclusion of the two-day course, attendees will have a comprehensive understanding of the different types of control devices and systems, as well as their responsibilities under relevant standards, regulations and building codes.

Attendees will learn how to interpret control system specifications, operate and maintain control hardware and software and tune for system performance, as well as learn relevant health and safety requirements.

Cancellation Policy

The AMCA reserve the right to cancel, postpone or reschedule events and training courses due to insufficient interest or other reasons beyond our control. In the instance that events or training courses are cancelled, a full refund will be given.

Refund Policy

A full refund will be given if the AMCA is notified in writing a minimum of 4 business days prior to the course commencement date. A 50% administration charge will be incurred if the AMCA is notified within 3 business days or less. No refund will be given if the AMCA is not notified of cancellation.
