Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this course will receive a Statement of Attainment from Box Hill Institute for the following accredited units:

• UEENEEJ174A Apply safety awareness and legal requirements for hydrocarbon
• UEENEEJ175A Service and repair self-contained hydrocarbon air conditioning  

Completion of these units can also be used as elective units for the Course in Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning Services (22329VIC).

Note: The practical session also includes content for VU22583 Handle Class A2/A2L Flammable Refrigerants.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of unit UEENEEJ184A, students will be able to:

• Prepare to work with hydrocarbon refrigerants.
• Apply safe working practices to hydrocarbon refrigerants
• Follow workplace procedures for hazard identification and risk control of hydrocarbon refrigerants

Upon successful completion of unit UEENEEJ185A, students will be able to:

• Prepare to service and repair Hydrocarbon refrigeration and air conditioning systems
• Service and repair Hydrocarbon refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
• Complete work and report on servicing and repairing Hydrocarbon refrigeration and air conditioning systems

Target audience

Learner background

This unit is suitable for refrigeration and air conditioning technicians responsible for installing, commissioning, servicing, repairing and maintaining residential or commercial refrigeration and air conditioning systems containing hydrocarbon refrigerants. 

Prerequisites

A person undertaking this unit shall have:

• A Certificate III in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning from the UEE11 Electrotechnology Training Package or equivalent.
• A refrigerant handling licence issued by the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC)
• A Victorian plumbing registration issued by the Victorian Building Authority in the class of Refrigerated Air Conditioning.

Furthermore, it is essential that students undertaking this course hold competency standards in the following units:

• UEENEEJ111A Diagnose and rectify faults in air conditioning and refrigeration systems and components 
• UEENEEJ113A Commission air conditioning and air conditioning.

Delivery and assessment

This two-day course is delivered by a qualified trainer at the Refrigeration and Climate Control Centre of Excellence, Box Hill Institute.

Fees

This course is offered by Box Hill Institute at the industry rate of $1,100.
