This unit of competency provides students with the skills and knowledge required to safely handle, use, store, and transport A2/A2L classified flammable refrigerants.

  • Manufacturers’ recommendations and instructions and
  • Completing the necessary documentation

Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this course will receive a Statement of Attainment from Box Hill Institute for Handle Class A2/A2L Flammable Refrigerants (VU22583).

Completion of this unit can also be used as an elective unit for the Course in Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning Services (22329VIC).

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Apply the principles of handling class A2/A2L flammable refrigerants using relevant standards and codes of practice
  • Recover, pressure test, evacuate and recharge a refrigeration system using A2/A2L flammable refrigerants on more than one occasion in accordance with workplace safety requirements and codes of practice.
  • Check that the system is operating within manufacturers specifications
  • Handle, transport, store and dispose of A2/A2L flammable refrigerants in accordance with workplace safety requirements and codes of practice.

Target audience

Learner background

This unit is suitable for refrigeration and air conditioning technicians responsible for installing, commissioning, servicing, repairing and maintaining residential or commercial refrigeration and air conditioning systems containing A2/A2L classified flammable refrigerants. These activities are likely to be undertaken without supervision.

Prerequisites

A person undertaking this unit shall have:

  • A trade level qualification or equivalent experience
  • A refrigerant handling licence issued by the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC)
  • A Victorian plumbing registration issued by the Victorian Building Authority in the class of Refrigerated Air Conditioning.

This two-day course is delivered by a qualified trainer at the Refrigeration and Climate Control Centre of Excellence, Box Hill Institute.

Cancellation Policy

The AMCA reserve the right to cancel, postpone or reschedule events and training courses due to insufficient interest or other reasons beyond our control. In the instance that events or training courses are cancelled, a full refund will be given.

Refund Policy

A full refund will be given if the AMCA is notified in writing a minimum of 4 business days prior to the course commencement date. A 50% administration charge will be incurred if the AMCA is notified within 3 business days or less. No refund will be given if the AMCA is not notified of cancellation.
