It is part of the Master of Refrigeration Program designed jointly by the AMCA and Box Hill Institute, and is delivered at the Refrigeration and Climate Control Centre of Excellence.
Who should attend?
The Master of Refrigeration Program is targeted at post-trade Refrigeration and Air-Conditioniong technicians working in the commercial heating, venitlation and air conditioning industry. Learners are best equipped to achieve the course outcomes if they have minimum language, literacy and numeracy skills that are equivalent to Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework. It is expected that learners have trade level qualifications or an equivalent level of experience in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry.
The units contained in this course are subject to the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Regulations 1995. This requires that persons carrying out this work must hold a national Refrigerant Handling Licence issued by the Australian Refrigeration Council.

Units delivered as part of this course include:
- Handle A2/A2L flammable refrigerants
- UEENEEJ174A - Apply safety awareness and legal requirements for hydrocarbon
- UEENEEJ175A - Service and repair self-contained hydrocarbon air conditioning
The Handle A2/A2L Flammable Refrigerants unit covers the skills and knowledge required to safely handle, use, store and transport A2/A2L classified flammable refrigerants. Topics covered in this unit include:
- Working safely;
- Complying with relevant legislation, regulation and licensing requirements,
- Understanding relevant standards and codes of practice;
- Understanding the relevant performance characteristics and manufacturers’ recommendations; and
- Completing the necessary documentation.
Attendees will also complete two units (UEENEEJ174A and UEENEEJ175A) relating to the service and repair of self-contained hydrocarbon air conditioning systems.
These unit covers specialised procedures for servicing and repairs that aim to promote the effective and efficient operation of primarily self contained air conditioning and refrigeration equipment using Hydrocarbon as the refrigerant. It reinforces safe working practice and the application of specialised knowledge of refrigeration principles that apply to Hydrocarbon, following service manuals, testing, locating and rectifying faults and defective components and completing the necessary service documentation.
